On Monday, I finally decided to claw my way out of my post-NaNoWriMo stupor and return to my beloved laptop. It’s been ten whole days since I wrote anything, although it has taken that long to catch up with the realities of life. Just returning my home to some semblance of cleanliness and order has eaten up much of my time. Plus, my brain is still processing this month-long experiment in writing a “practice novel.” As the days raced by, I learned a few hard knock lessons which of course I will share with you, my dearest readers, and I won’t even go into the ridiculous details of the actual head concussion I suffered on about day six…

I am feeling guilty for neglecting my blog during this month of novel-writing madness, but dear readers, I hope you can patiently bear with me. The end of NaNoWriMo is in sight! It’s already Day 26, and I am afraid to leave my house for fear some disaster will strike…

“The easiest way to separate yourself from the unformed blobby mass of “aspiring” writers is to a) actually write and b) actually finish. That’s how easy it is to clamber up the ladder to the second echelon. Write. And finish what you write. That’s how you…

  8. Surviving 30 Days of NaNoWriMo

    32

    October 29, 2012 by Xenogirl

Dear readers, last week I pledged to you all that I am going to tackle National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo, as the cool kids call it. One of my favorite bloggers over at Out Where the Buses Don’t Run recently wrote about his NaNoWriMo Weapons of Mass Destruction. His post got me thinking… 50,000 words in only 30 days is indeed unreasonable. In fact, it is quite likely that this endeavor will result in an epic, personal nervous breakdown somewhere around day ten or eleven. How am I, a naïve NaNoWriMo newbie, going to survive the month of November? Thus it is in the spirit of sanity that I present to you my personal NaNoWriMo Survival Kit…

    NaNoWriMo Participant-180x180-2

Oh my dearest readers, it has been a busy couple of weeks! I have been fervently preparing for National Novel Writing Month a.k.a. NaNoWriMo, which begins November 1. I must admit that when I first heard of NaNoWriMo, I was horrified. WHY would anyone attempt to write a complete novel (defined as 50,000 words of fiction) in only thirty days? The only answer I could imagine… insanity…

  10. Writer, Interrupted

    42

    October 3, 2012 by Xenogirl

Society has not taken any notice, but my beloved Generation X is turning 40. Lost between the hordes of baby boomers (RETIRE ALREADY FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!) and the overly confident Generation Y or Millennials (or whatever you call yourself), Generation X has hit mid-life without much fanfare. Xers – chronically misunderstood, mostly cynical, and forever overlooked – of COURSE hit what should be the prime of our careers during a devastating economic recession. Forgive me for a moment while I complain about how familiar this sounds. Most of my generation attempted to start our careers back in the late 80s and early 90s in the middle of yet another (now forgotten) crippling recession. Once again, Generation X seems to have…
