On Monday, I finally decided to claw my way out of my post-NaNoWriMo stupor and return to my beloved laptop. It’s been ten whole days since I wrote anything, although it has taken that long to catch up with the realities of life. Just returning my home to some semblance of cleanliness and order has eaten up much of my time. Plus, my brain is still processing this month-long experiment in writing a “practice novel.” As the days raced by, I learned a few hard knock lessons which of course I will share with you, my dearest readers, and I won’t even go into the ridiculous details of the actual head concussion I suffered on about day six…

“The easiest way to separate yourself from the unformed blobby mass of “aspiring” writers is to a) actually write and b) actually finish. That’s how easy it is to clamber up the ladder to the second echelon. Write. And finish what you write. That’s how you…

  8. Left Brain, Right Brain?

    September 17, 2012 by Xenogirl

Well, I have a confession to make… I did not blog last week. In fact, I don’t think I wrote a single creative word at all. Rather, I spent some time with my brain buried in the overwhelming 2013 Writer’s Market, sifting through the endless pages of advice and publishers and magazines and agents. I cannot say that I set the book down feeling very hopeful for my future. It seems that the career path to authorship may have been devised by a high-ranking, evil minion of the netherworld, or perhaps even the devil himself. Nevertheless, I am happy to share with you the findings of my Writer’s Market research. To summarize, aspiring writers only need to know that…

  9. My Fifteen Minutes of Freshly Pressed Fame

Sunday morning while I slept comfortably in my bed, my phone tweeted in my ear. It chirped again, and then yet a third time. In irritation, I managed to crack one eyelid open and swipe at the little screen. Surprisingly, I discovered that three different strangers had just commented on a blog post from a couple of weeks ago. How very odd. Then my phone beeped again. After a long, confused pause, my impatient intuition jammed a handful of cherry bombs directly into my slumbering brain. KABOOM! I sat straight up in bed, gasped in comprehension, and scurried downstairs to my computer…

  10. What Would Hemingway Do?

    August 15, 2012 by Xenogirl

I have been endlessly rummaging around in my cluttered imagination in search of the perfect blog topic… that one elusive blog post that finally gets “Freshly Pressed” and goes wildly viral across the interwebs. This is every blogger’s dream! Notoriety! Fame! Fortune! But after much thought, I have given up. In fact, I have concluded that these hopes should be immediately crushed whenever they surface within my brain. This will surely not be a popular sentiment, but I even suspect that such thinking may be the first sign of a mediocre or possibly failed writing career…
